Even though there has been some work to mitigate the rapey aspects of the Charm spell, I still think it works best in the Old School magical curse sense. A charmed person may not act in their best interest. A charmed person may sleep with someone they otherwise wouldn’t have. A charmed person may sell you their home. Also a charmed person may do little more then smile and nod. It depends on the person and their natural proclivities, but in the end, the Charm spell is an invasion and disruption to the person it is cast on.
